Fresh faces: Rutgers

Posted by ESPN.com's Brian Bennett The Big East fresh faces series continues now with Rutgers. True freshman Mohamed Sanu already made an impact in the spring after his early enrollment and will likely see some time at either receiver or defensive back this fall. But we're here to talk about guys who are just arriving this summer, and the Scarlet Knights have some interesting newcomers to follow this preseason: • Tom Savage, QB: Savage will be the most watched true freshman in the Big East this summer. A major talent and one of the top quarterback recruits in the nation a year ago, Savage's readiness might shape what Rutgers decides to do with its offense this season. Senior Dom Natale won the quarterback job in the spring but doesn't have a firm hold on it. Savage visited every spring practice and has been working diligently this summer; Scarlet Knights fans will follow his every move in preseason camp. • Antwan Lowery, DT: Lowery was another jewel in this recruiting class, a massive 6-foot-4, 325-pound defensive lineman from Miami. He's not just a load of bricks either, as Lowery can really run for his size. You don't see too many true freshmen make much of an impact right away on the interior defensive line because they're just not strong enough. Lowery looks like he might be the rare exception.

Isaac Holmes, DT: Maybe Rutgers will have two true freshmen playing on the defensive line. Holmes was one of the top prospects in New Jersey and displayed terrific athleticism for someone who's 6 foot 3, 290 pounds. Even if neither he nor Lowery is completely ready this year, they look like they could form a fearsome tandem up front for years to come.
